Welcome
The nit nurse or 'Nitty Norah' as she was often fondly called has nowadays almost totally disappeared from our schools and communities. We hope we can follow in her tradition and give up-to-date, unbiased advice on how to spot and treat these unwelcome visitors. Evidence now shows that 'no-nit' policies in schools are ineffective and banning children from school with nits is frowned upon since about 50% of children sent home for head lice don't have them and less than a fifth of children who have nits go on to have a headlice infection after 14 days. New research from Nelsonbach show that 44% of children are kept off school by their parents when they are infested despite the department of Health's guidelines for infection control advising against unnecessary absence from the classroom.

Know your Enemy The head louse is a parasitic insect the size of a match head about 1/16 to 1/8 inch in length and has six legs and hook-like claws that grasp to a strand of hair tightly, making it difficult to dislodge. It is specifically adapted to live on human head hair and away from the warmth and moisture of its natural environment it quickly dies. Using a detector comb we can establish if the hair is infected with these pests and then take action to permanently stop them bugging us. Myths There are many myths about headlice.
