Why monitor blood pressure at home


 Clinical studies have shown  improved detection  and treatment of high blood pressure when regular home blood pressure monitoring is conducted in consultation with a GP. Blood pressure measurement in a doctor's surgery or hospital setting may cause apprehension and produce an elevated reading. Home measurement  reduces the effects of outside influences on readings, supplements the doctor's readings and provides a more accurate complete pressure history.

 The World Hypertension League recommends regular blood pressure monitoring for everyone with clinically validated blood pressure monitors. Blood pressure monitoring is particularly indicated for those suffering from high blood pressure, or people in  high-risk groups such as the overweight, diabetic or elderly. Regular blood pressure monitoring can help prevent strokes and other cardiovascular diseases.
