Most form the small structural components of protein and are required for the synthesis of protein within the body. The primary function of most Amino Acids is to furnish the essential material for duplication of the genetic code, for cell division, and for the formation of muscles and connective tissue.
Amino acids are classified as either Essential Amino Acids or Non Essential Amino Acids the latter means that the Amino Acid can be manufactured within the Liver from other Amino Acids and from materials within our food. The former means that these Amino Acids cannot be made in our bodies, but rather are made by plants and animals which we eat as food.
Lamberts Amino acids are presented in their free form i.e. they are ready to be absorbed and used by the body (i.e. digestion is not required).Non -essential amino acids include alanine, arginine, glycine, proline, serine, taurine and tyrosine.Essential amino acids iclude histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine.

The names of amino acids are often prefaced by L ,example L-carnitine or by D. The L forms resemble more closely the amino acids in the body.
